Elkmont {Great Smokey Mountains National Park}

Today I’m sharing one day from our trip to Pigeon Forge, TN.  We started off our day with breakfast at the Old Mill Restaurant.  We ate here twice during our trip and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Pigeon Forge. The portions are large so you may want to share.  The only thing I didn’t like were the grits.  They needed a lot of salt and butter to be edible.  But everything else was delicious. Our next stop…

Road Trip {Hiawassee, GA}

So, this is mostly a DIY blog.  But I also share the trips we take, big and small.  Growing up, I was so fortunate that my parents took my sister and I on most of the trips they went on.  The world is so big and there is so much to see!  I try to take every opportunity to do the same with my girls. So…when Mom asked me if I wanted to accompany her on a little recognizance mission…

Around Asheville

I shared our experience at the Biltmore’s Candlelight Christmas Tour on Monday so today I thought I would share some of our favorite spots during our visit to Asheville.  Touring the Biltmore was on my bucket list so when my husband offered to take me there he didn’t have to ask twice! I hemmed and hawed over where we should stay for weeks.  In mid-December I got a Travelzoo newsletter with an awesome rate at the Grand Bohemian located in…

Breakfast at Be Our Guest Restaurant

On our last trip to Disney I managed to snag a last minute breakfast reservation at Be Our Guest. You can check out our visit at lunch here. The reservation was before the park even opened!  If you’ve never done this before (like me) there is a roped off area at the side of the main entrance where they check your reservation and let you into the park using your arm band or ticket.  It was so fun to walk down Main Street with…

Our Summer Bucket List {2014}

It’s a sad day on the Bay Bush as we put summer to rest and prepare for the first day of school tomorrow.  McKenna will begin 2nd grade (what?!?) and Avery starts another year of preschool after Labor Day.   We packed a lot of fun into a short time and almost checked everything off on our Bucket List.  We missed the water park, riding go-carts and riding a horse…but there’s always next year for those!    We put…

Tuckaleechee Caverns

We spent our last morning of our trip to the mountains at Tuckaleechee Caverns. I have visited other caverns before but these were much larger and felt like authentic caverns.  I almost felt like I should have been required to wear a hardhat and tote a chisel. There is no elevator down to these caverns.  You walk down stairs and paths all the way down to 450 feet below ground.  I really have to talk myself out of freaking out…

Cades Cove

We just wrapped up a fun-filled little jaunt to the mountains of East Tennessee.  One of our favorite places to go in the mountains is Cades Cove.  (You can read about our last trip here.) Forgive me for the sheer volume of pictures you’re about to see. We ran by Kentucky Fried Chicken on the way and picked up the makings for a picnic.  They have a large picnic area and stream.  The girls had a ball playing in the stream…

Lately

Here’s a lot of what we’ve been up to lately. I have a serious crush on sweet potato vines after I saw these gorgeous flowers in the mountains.  I even bought one to add to my planter at the side door!  Sadly, it is infested with some sort of gnat like bug…I’m not sure what to do about that.  I keep hoping they’ll just go away.  That could happen, right? We’ve been enjoying lots of fresh fruits and vegetables this…

2013 {in Review}

Here’s a look back on 2013 (mostly in pictures).  It was full of ups and downs, sickness and health and lots of precious memories.  I’ll do the blog favorites in review in another post.  I didn’t realize how many different trips we took until I looked back at the pictures for this post.    My parents gave us a family cruise for Christmas last year and we all went in January. It was a wonderful trip!     In February, we…

Dollywood

We spent another day of our trip to the mountains at Dollywood.  The park opened at 10am on the day we went.  It took us a little while to get our act together and figure out what we wanted to do that day and didn’t get there until around 11am.  #amateurmistake  I wish we had gotten there a little sooner but we still managed to pack a lot into our day.     We bought the overpriced picture of the…
