One Room Challenge: Girl’s Bedroom Makeover {THE REVEAL}

One Room Challenge: Girl’s Bedroom Makeover {THE REVEAL}

It’s here!  The end!  I have a real love/hate relationship with these challenges but I always love it when its over.  If you’ve missed the update posts (the few I posted), I made over my daughter’s bedroom for her birthday.  She just turned ten so I wanted something that reflected her personality and would last well into her teen years. Here’s where we started… And here’s the same view after the makeover! McKenna is a fun-loving, little super-star in the…

McKenna {age 10}

McKenna {age 10}

As if I wasn’t a hot mess from Miranda turning two, my oldest daughter hits double digits today!  How is that even possible?!?  I’m still 25 so I’m not sure how she got to be 10.  It is almost impossible to even comprehend how she got so big so fast. I’m going to show her age though because her baby pictures pre-date my digital camera.  I had to pull out her baby book to get this shot.  I wasn’t kidding…

Volleyball

Volleyball

We’ve entered the exciting world of (sort of) organized sports!  McKenna decided she wanted to play volleyball through the recreation department this Fall. I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m not sporty and even after watching all of her games this season I’m still not sure I understand the rules or how the scoring works.  My solution? Just clap and yell “Good Job!” after every play.  It doesn’t matter who scored the point. She had her own cheering…

Boo from the Bay Bush {2014}

Boo from the Bay Bush {2014}

We’ve had all kinds of fun going on over the last week! Miss A kicked off the week with a fun and adorable costume parade at preschool. Her little class walked from their school to our local grocery store. They paraded through the store and sang two songs for the customers and parents. After their parade they had a picnic on the playground.   This was along the same time that Avery pushed down Spiderman for “trying to kiss her.”…

Trick or Treat at the Palace

Trick or Treat at the Palace

We did Trick or Treating at Tryon Palace the Saturday before Halloween.  We totally found out about this at the last minute and the girls’ Halloween costumes hadn’t even come in yet.  We threw on a few dress up outfits and dashed out of the house.  McKenna had been to the gardens before but Avery had not.  They are both begging to go back and take the inside tour at Christmas now! We visited the Blacksmith’s shop first. And made a…

Hillbilly Tooth

Hillbilly Tooth

Sister has been wiggling and jiggling and worrying me about this tooth for two weeks. It finally got so loose that we were calling it her Hillbilly tooth. I convinced her that the tooth fairy would pay extra if she waited until after picture day…and as luck would have it…she did!  (Now her school pictures will probably come back with her posing like she did in the picture above…) The night after picture day I heard her screaming in the…

Let it go!

Let it go!

The girls love all things Frozen.  McKenna has been scouring Etsy on my phone trying to find the perfect Elsa dress.  They are pretty hard to find without spending an arm and a leg. One morning there happened to be a Groopdealz message in inbox with Elsa dress for less than $22!  I ordered two right away.  It took several weeks to get them but I used them as bribery for “getting up” the first two weeks of school.  It…

Lately

Lately

Here’s a lot of what we’ve been up to lately. I have a serious crush on sweet potato vines after I saw these gorgeous flowers in the mountains.  I even bought one to add to my planter at the side door!  Sadly, it is infested with some sort of gnat like bug…I’m not sure what to do about that.  I keep hoping they’ll just go away.  That could happen, right? We’ve been enjoying lots of fresh fruits and vegetables this…

Castle Bunk Beds {How to Bribe your Children to Sleep by Themselves}

Castle Bunk Beds {How to Bribe your Children to Sleep by Themselves}

I (admittedly) have a problem with boundaries and going overboard.  (See here.)  I also have a problem with two little girls who want to sleep with me every single night.  And toss.  And turn.  And kick me.  And lay sideways across the bed.  And argue about who gets to sleep in the middle.  Or who gets to sleep with Mommy and who gets to sleep with Daddy. This has been going on since my 7 year old was 18 months…

McKenna’s Baptism

McKenna’s Baptism

Last month, the children at our church went to sing at a local nursing home for the Wednesday night service instead of having their usual youth meeting. We arrived back at church after the regular service was already over and almost everyone had gone home. When we got back in our car to do the same McKenna asked, “What is that thing people do sometimes at church where you go under the water?”   “Do you mean getting baptized?”    …
