First Day of Pre-K

First Day of Pre-K

My little Averycakes started her last year of preschool this past week.  Where does the time go?!? We celebrated with our back-to-school breakfast.  (It looks eerily similar to the one we had for McKenna the week before.  Almost as if I just left everything sitting out on the kitchen table for over a week…)  I did switch out the books and change the chalkboard but everything else is the same.       This girl was so excited to go back…

Cooking En Masse

Cooking En Masse

You may have noticed from several of my posts that I’ve been attempting various strategies to try to pull myself together before school started back. This latest endeavor is no different.  I have decided to try my hand at…. you guessed it… cooking en masse. Okay.  You probably wouldn’t have guessed that.  But when I saw this pin on Pinterest I thought it might be something good to try. You can read the detailed instructions here. This is how it…

First Day of School {2nd Grade}

First Day of School {2nd Grade}

We have survived a full week of school.  It hasn’t been pretty and there was one day we flirted with getting a tardy but managed to get to school on time. We kicked the first day off with our annual Back to School Breakfast.   The “runner” is wrapping paper from the OneSpot at Target along with the marker board that looks like a sheet of paper.  I had everything else around the house already.   We dined on McKenna’s favorite…

First Day of Preschool

First Day of Preschool

We started our week after Labor Day with sweet Avery starting Preschool.  I recycled the same First Day of School breakfast from the week before only with egg sandwiches this time.  It’s hard to believe my baby is old enough to go to school but I’m excited for her to learn and play the same way McKenna did.  Preschool really helped McKenna come out of her shell.  Miss Averycakes is pretty well out of her shell already but I think…

First Day of School (First Grade)

First Day of School (First Grade)

The magical days of summer ended Monday morning when little sweetie headed back to school to start first grade.  But the wild ride of summer had to end sometime, I suppose.  We had a great summer and accomplished just about everything on our bucket list.   I managed to scrape together a First Day of School breakfast at the last minute.  Here’s a helpful piece of advice… If you wait until the last minute to do something, it only takes…

Painted Porch Ceiling

Painted Porch Ceiling

We had a great July 4th weekend.  I kept busy playing with my girly girls and doing projects around the house. I’m so excited to share my new porch ceiling!  Ever since I saw Edie’s haint blue porch ceiling and Jen‘s painted porch, I’ve been itching to paint mine blue.  Being a Carolina girl, I love anything light blue. What better way to show my colors than right there on the front porch so it’s the first thing people see? …

Mudroom

Mudroom

Going on three years ago, we contracted out the construction of our house. We didn’t have a contractor which meant I hired different people to handle the tasks of building the house. Plumbers, electricians, cabinet makers…you get the idea. We saved between $20 and $25 per square foot by doing this part ourselves. But it wasn’t for the faint of heart and at the end I was so tired of dealing with it and ready to move in that there were some rooms…

What keeps me up at night…

What keeps me up at night…

Ok.  Let’s face it.  It would be nearly impossible to keep me up at night.  So a better name for this post might have been “What’s bothering me.” Here it is.  Source: google.com via Amanda on Pinterest We have to register McKenna for Kindergarten on Friday.  As in 2 days from now.  KINDERGARTEN.  The countdown begins.  I think I’m going to be sick. I don’t want my baby to go to Kindergarten.  I think if we won the lottery I would…

Pinterest

Pinterest

Pinterest is my new obsession.  It’s a personal online bulletin board where you can “pin” pictures of things you like or want to try or remember.  It’s A.W.E.S.O.M.E.  I could spend a LOT of free time on there…assuming I had a lot of free time. The pins link back to the original source (most of the time) so its a great way to find new blogs too…like you need a few more blogs to read.  It’s like the motherload of blog…
