DIY Medallion Makeover

I’m so excited to share a little DIY makeover that I did a few months ago!

Last summer I picked up two of these faux medallions at Hobby Lobby for 90% off!  I’m guessing they were 90% off because of the horrible color.  I can’t imagine “mustard” working its way into any of the rooms of my home.  But I liked the design (and I loved the price)!

Here’s a look at the “before” version straight from the store.

.

Despite looking like wood, these were actually made of a hard foam material and very light weight.

I decided to give them a little makeover in hopes of hanging them in my living room above the sofa.  (I always struggle with what to put above the sofa!)  The print hanging above my sofa is square but the sofa is so long that I needed to add something to sides to balance out the wall with the sofa.

I picked up a can of Krylon spray paint in Leather Brown to make it look like a dark mahogany wood.

A coat of paint made all the difference in the world!  Here’s a look the medallions after painting one with one coat of spray paint.  I let it dry and then touched up the spots I missed on the first go-round.

I hung them in my living room on either side of the print above the sofa.

I love a good makeover and that the entire project cost less than $20!
